NBRB Trains Kyambogo University Civil Engineering Students on BIMS

The National Building Review Board (NBRB) trained Civil Engineering students at Kyambogo University on using the Building Industry Management System (BIMS), giving them practical exposure to Uganda’s digital building permit application process.

The training, held on Friday, 16 October 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, brought together 70 Year Three and Year Four Civil Engineering students.

The session introduced the students to NBRB’s mandate and its role in promoting compliance with building laws, regulations and standards before taking them through the practical use of BIMS.

The session guided students through creating BIMS accounts and showed how building permit applications are submitted and processed through the system.

The practical demonstration was intended to give the students an understanding of how digital systems are being applied in building control and to expose them to procedures they are likely to encounter in professional practice.

The session also provided an opportunity for students to engage directly with the NBRB team on various aspects of building control and the operation of BIMS.

Students raised questions on the permit application process, system requirements and the broader regulatory framework, which were addressed during the training.

BIMS provides a digital platform through which building permit applications and related building control processes can be managed, supporting greater efficiency and transparency in the sector.

By engaging students before they enter professional practice, NBRB is contributing to greater awareness of building control requirements among the next generation of built-environment professionals.

The training forms part of the Board’s continued efforts to promote understanding and compliance with building standards while strengthening engagement with academic institutions and future practitioners in Uganda’s built environment.
