NBRB to train building committees and building control officers on BIMS

The National Building Review Board (NBRB) will hold a two-day refresher training workshop for Building Committee members and Building Control Officers on the use of the Building Industry Management System (BIMS).

The workshop runs from July 9 to July 10, 2026, at different locations covering the four regions of the country, namely, Central, Western, Eastern and Northern.

The training forms part of NBRB’s continuous capacity-building programme under its mandate to oversee and promote effective implementation of the building control framework, in accordance with the Building Control Act.

NBRB continues to support Local Governments in strengthening the administration of building control services through BIMS.

The workshop will focus on the practical functionality and hands-on use of BIMS. Particular emphasis will be placed on onboarding Building Committee members onto the system and on processing building permit applications within it.

NBRB expects the training to reinforce participants’ competencies, address operational challenges and promote consistent use of the system.

Each Local Government is required to send six participants for the full duration of the workshop, comprising five Building Committee members and one Building Control Officer.

Local Governments whose Building Committees have not yet been onboarded onto BIMS are required to submit the full names and signatures of duly appointed Committee members before the workshop begins, to enable their onboarding into the system.

The BIMS platform reflects NBRB’s drive to digitise building permit processing across Uganda, cutting delays and strengthening compliance with national building standards.

By equipping Building Committees and Building Control Officers with hands-on skills, NBRB is building a more efficient, transparent and accountable building control system in partnership with Local Governments.
