NBRB Showcases Building Industry Management System at World Engineering Day 2026 Exhibition

The National Building Review Board (NBRB) participated in the World Engineering Day (WED) 2026 celebrations, organized by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as part of the Annual Engineers’ Conference held at Hotel Africana.

NBRB took part in the exhibition segment of the event, where it showcased its ongoing digital transformation efforts in regulating the built environment.

This year’s World Engineering Day was celebrated under the theme “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future through Innovation and Digitalization,” which highlights the role of innovation and technology in shaping resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

NBRB’s exhibition was centred on the Building Industry Management System (BIMS), the Board’s digital platform designed to streamline regulatory processes within Uganda’s construction sector.

Through the exhibition, NBRB engaged engineers and other industry stakeholders on the role of BIMS in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and coordination in the management of building approvals, inspections, and regulatory oversight.

The platform is part of broader efforts to strengthen digital governance in the built environment and support integration with other government systems, including the Integrated Revenue Administration System (IRAS).

The event was attended by national leaders and key stakeholders in the engineering sector.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, who addressed the conference, commended the engineering fraternity for its vital role in national development.

He emphasized that engineers are responsible for building and maintaining infrastructure that drives economic growth and improves the quality of life of citizens.

The Deputy Speaker also reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting a vibrant and ethical engineering profession through appropriate legislation and policy frameworks.

He called on government entities to support local professionals by removing restrictive clauses in procurement processes that limit opportunities for Ugandan engineers.

At the same time, he cautioned engineers against compromising on professional standards, noting that substandard work undermines public trust and damages the reputation of the profession.

He further encouraged engineers to remain actively engaged in project planning and supervision, emphasizing that while emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence can support engineering work, they should not replace professional judgment and accountability.

In his remarks, Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala applauded the engineering fraternity for their strong participation in the conference and emphasized the central role engineers play in shaping Uganda’s development through infrastructure.

He called upon engineers to continue upholding integrity, accountability, and excellence, while ensuring that infrastructure development remains environmentally responsible and resilient in the face of climate change.

NBRB’s participation in the exhibition provided an opportunity to engage with engineers, regulators, and other stakeholders on the role of digital systems such as BIMS in strengthening regulatory compliance and promoting a safer and more efficient construction sector in Uganda.
