I warmly welcome you to the National Building Review Board (NBRB)’s Digital Space.

Mandated by the Building Control Act, 2013, NBRB commenced operations in October 2018 under the Ministry of Works and Transport primarily responsible for regulating the built environment.

In pursuit of our mandate, we’ve achieved significant milestones. These include establishing and training building committees, conducting investigations into building collapses and fire accidents, developing comprehensive building codes, launching and implementing the innovative Building Industry Management System (BIMS), developing and implementing the country’s Fire Safety Digital Toolkit, conducting research on the safety of building materials, methods & techniques, and establishing strategic partnerships. 

On a remarkable note, our pursuit of excellence earned us the NITA-U e-Government Excellence Award in December 2021. Additionally, the Engineers Registration (ERB) recognized NBRB in March 2023 for compliance with the Engineers Registration Act Cap 271,1969 and extraordinary dedication to the engineering profession.

Despite these efforts, the industry still faces challenges like substandard building materials, inadequate supervision, and poor workmanship, among others leading to accidents and causing loss of life and property. Collaboratively, we can address them by upholding Uganda’s building laws, regulations, and standards; ensuring a planned, safe, decent, and well-built environment.
